Urban Boundary Layers Over Dense and Tall Canopies

چکیده
Wind tunnel experiments were carried out on four urban morphologies: two tall canopies with uniform-height and super-tall a large variation in element heights (where the maximum height is more than double average canopy height, $h_{max}$=2.5 $h_{avg}$). {The packing density fixed across surfaces to $h_{avg} = 80$ mm, $\lambda_{p} 0.44$, respectively.} A combination of laser doppler anemometry direct drag measurements used calculate scale mean velocity profiles {within boundary layer depth, $\delta$}. In experiment, high resulted `skimming flow' regime very little flow penetration into canopy. This led surprisingly shallow roughness sublayer ($z\approx1.15h_{avg}$), well-defined inertial above it. {In heterogeneous-height canopies, despite same features significantly different.} heterogeneity enhanced mixing thus encouraging deep deeper was found exist extend up just tallest (corresponding $z/h_{avg} 2.85$)}, which be dominant lengthscale controlling behaviour. {Results points toward existence an for all considered herein severity surface ($\delta/h_{avg} 3 - 6.25$)}. contrasts previous literature.

Stability of Supersonic Boundary Layers Over Blunt Wedges
Receptivity and stability of supersonic boundary layers over blunt flat plates and wedges are numerically investigated at a free stream Mach number of 3.5 and at a high Reynolds number of 10/inch. Both the steady and unsteady solutions are obtained by solving the full Navier-Stokes equations using the 5-order accurate weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) scheme for space discretization a...
متن کاملAero Optics of Subsonic Boundary Layers over Backward Steps
An experimental study of the two-dimensional transition from turbulent boundary layer over small backward-facing steps is presented in order to investigate the effect of the separation bubble behind the back-step on the aero-optical environment, as well as to demonstrate the capacity for characterizing complex flow fields using non-intrusive optical measurement techniques such as the Malley Pro...
متن کاملBoundary Layers and Heat Transfer on a Rotating Rough Disk
The study of flow and heat transfer over rotating circular disks is of great practical importance in understanding the cooling of rotatory machinery such as turbines, electric motors and design and manufacturing of computer disk drives. This paper presents an analysis of the flow and heat transfer over a heated infinite permeable rough disk. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the elliptic Nav...
متن کامل"Wide or tall" and "sparse matrix dense matrix" multiplications
This note explores sparse matrix dense matrix (SMDM) multiplications, useful in block Krylov or block Lanczos methods. SMDM computations are AU , and V A, multiplication of a large sparse matrix m × n matrix A by a matrix V of k rows of length m or a matrix U of k columns of length k, k << m, k << n . In a block Lanczos or Krylov algorithm, matrix matrix multiplications with the ”tall” U and ”w...
